Summary: On September 23, the School Board held a work session to discuss school size policies and received data that may guide the development of such policy. As a next step, staff seeks the School Board's guidance on the desire to establish a policy before a policy draft is provided.

The purpose of a policy would be guide the Superintendent, staff, and community when considering the efficacy of expanding and/or constructing school buildings and making future recommendations.

Currently, as no such policy exists, school size decisions are made on a project by project basis, dependent on site size and type, the capacity needs of a community, and other instructional and technical needs.
