Summary:
|
Freshman Seminar is a cornerstone experience for incoming students to high school. The primary goals of Freshman Seminar are to assist and advise students in developing their social and emotional skills as well as setting academic and career goals. For the social emotional aspects, Freshman Seminar focuses on five key areas: self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Beginning in 2018-19, Freshman Seminar became a required course for incoming ninth graders. In the first year, 50 teachers were Freshman Seminar teachers and they will continue to transition through high school with their student groups. Based on surveys, feedback, observations, and professional development we have made adaptations and modifications that will be implemented in 2019-2020. Being able to reflect on the successes and challenges of Freshman Seminar this year you will hear about three areas this evening: Survey Results, Curriculum Revisions, and School Highlights. The mission and goals of Freshman Seminar are worthy ones that need our continued attention and dedication year in and out. Working with classroom teachers throughout the year we have discussed lessons learned about what worked well and what needed more attention.
