Summary:
At the January 10th School Board meeting, the Board received an update on the 2016 Referendum Projects. Staff projects, when the original scope is complete, the projects will come in under budget. Staff recommends that some of the remaining funds go towards replacing first grade furniture division-wide. A similar approach was taken last year with kindergarten furniture. This systematic approach allows for consistent professional development across all schools as well as makes a replacement cycle in the future more efficient and easier to manage. First grade furniture would be replaced in a total of 52 classrooms at all elementary schools with the exception of Woodbrook and Red Hill, both of which recently received comprehensive modernization work. Compared to the original scope of the Learning Space Modernization capital project, this meets the original scope but increases the number of rooms addressed.

Funding:
This request is within current capital improvement funding. This does not increase the total County budget, and it does not request a change in total borrowed funds. Fiscal Services is working with Finance on the strategy to adjust the referendum borrowed proceeds.
Recommendation:
Request the Board of Supervisors is to appropriate $500,000.00 from the Woodbrook Addition, Modernization, & Renovation capital project and $701,200.00 from the Learning Space Modernization capital project for a total appropriated budget of $1,201,200.00 for 1st grade classroom furniture replacement in elementary schools.
