Summary: A program evaluation was conducted in school year 2016-17 that found that our Extended Day Enrichment Programs provided a needed and quality service at each of our elementary schools, but was limited by staffing challenges. In addition, this self-sustaining program offers lower rates than many after school programs, but there are still many ACPS students who can not access the program as evidenced by the very small percentage of economically disadvantaged students who are enrolled. Staff began work to address staffing challenges with small gains. Staff asks for direction about pursuing recommendations to expand the EDEP program to allow for economically disadvantaged students. If the Board agrees, staff will bring back potential solutions at a later date.
Recommendation: Provide direction to staff.
