Summary: Mary Carr Greer Elementary received a grant in the amount of $41,754.43 to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) during the 2017-2018 school year. The FFVP is a federally funding program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating schools during the school day, outside of breakfast and lunch. The goal is to improve children’s overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. Schools are awarded through an application process and consideration to percentage of free/ reduced student population. The FFVP will be served to Greer students through the Child Nutrition Program and support of school community, with an emphasis on local produce.

The funds will be received and disbursed as attached.
Funding: As presented.
Recommendation: Request the Board of Supervisors appropriate the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant funds in the amount of $41,754.43 and to amend the appropriations ordinance accordingly.
