Summary
:
Dr. Moran has affirmed the committee’s recommendation that
1. "A Study in Scarlet" shall be removed from the 6th grade book list for Language Arts.
2. "A Study in Scarlet" shall remain in use in school library / media centers of the Albemarle County Public Schools.
Board Policy INC states that the Superintendent, upon receipt of the committee’s recommendation, will review the complaint and the committee recommendations and forward the committee recommendations and her decision to the School Board. This was done at the June 23, 2011, meeting of the School Board.
The decision of the Superintendent may be appealed to the School Board by the complainant or be reconsidered by the Board, if it votes to do so. No material will be removed or restricted without the approval of the School Board. The decision of the Board will be final.
A copy of the committee report and Dr. Moran's decision are enclosed. A copy of the book has been provided to the School Board.
The complainant has received a copy of Dr. Moran's decision and the committee’s report.
